Visual Art

Janie intends to create a window display using the front window in her own flat in West Princes Street, that corresponds or talks to a further display at Woodlands Community Garden. These will be displays that use imagery collected during her AIR residency (Phase 2) in Hillhead Ward for Glasgow Life, in conjunction with Woodlands Community Garden. This taps into the collective consciousness of the community as it recovers from the pandemic and personal trauma experienced by many in the community.

Janie Nicoll is a Glasgow based visual artist with a socially engaged as well as a studio based practice. She graduated with a degree in Painting from Edinburgh College of Art, and an MFA from Glasgow School of Art. She currently works across a range of media; including installation, photography, film, digital imaging, collage, printmaking, and assemblage, and is interested in making artworks out-with regular gallery spaces and exploring possibilities created through collaboration or interaction with other people. She recently undertook ‘In Kind Project’ with artist Ailie Rutherford, that explored the in kind economy of the visual arts using GI 2018 as a case study. Janie is currently Projects and Campaigns Manager at Scottish Artists Union; a former President of SAU (2014 – 2017); and is a Trustee for Engage, where she is also a Rep for Freelancers on Engage Council.
