About the Event

Are you thinking of applying for funding for your festival project and don't know where to start? Do you know the basics but would like to improve your skills? Perhaps you don't know where to even find funds in the first place? We at GOHAF think that the arts funding system currently in place fails to serve the majority of society and needs a complete overhaul. In the meantime, let's work together to make the process a bit easier and more accessible!

Join the GOHAF team and workshop leader Briana Pegado for a 2-hour workshop focused on how to write fundraising applications. The workshop will focus on:

  • How to talk about yourself and your practice using a personal values compass
  • How to write a good funding application based on a strong proposal
  • How to start evaluating your project impact and monitor your project
  • How to budget, including how to calculate in-kind costs
  • A quick intro to different types of funding and fundraising
  • Resources you can use to guide you**
  • Follow up with a debunking buzz-words and terminology guide

This two-hour zoom workshop will involve some practical writing exercises, so bring along something to write with. There will also be Q+A, where we will be encouraging questions and discussion from participants. We welcome questions sent in advance to glasgowopenhouse@gmail.com.

**We have been working on building a shared resource of what funds/grants/awards/bursaries are currently available for artists in Glasgow, as well as support services people can access. We will share this resource at the workshop, as well as inviting people to contribute to this collaborative approach to arts funding.**

About the speakers

Workshop leader, the amazing Briana Pegado, is Creative Director at Fringe of Colour Films, Founder of the Edinburgh Student Arts Festival (ESAF),  Co-Director of We Are Here Scotland, Chair of YWCA Scotland, Governing Body for the University of York and Grant & Dev Manager of Black Queer Travel Guide.

We will also be joined by Janie Nicoll from the Scottish Artists Union, who will be sharing the benefits of union membership, including the provision of public liability insurance and access to their learning programme.
